Elected officials share Thanksgiving messages

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Several West Virginia elected officials are sharing messages with state residents in connection with the Thanksgiving holiday:

Gov. Jim Justice is calling for West Virginians to help others in his first Thanksgiving message as governor.

“Reach out to someone that is struggling. Reach out a kind hand, a kind handshake, a warm meal, a big smile and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving,” Justice said in the YouTube message.

Justice said there are a lot of residents who are still hurting from the June 2016 flood. He said those residents should be the focus of assistance.

“We want everyone to have a blessed Thanksgiving,” the governor said. “West Virginians are resilient, hard-working, good family people, who know the difference from right and wrong and know they are blessed by God above,” Justice said.

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin

“As we gather around the dinner table this Thanksgiving, it’s important for all of us to reflect on the great blessings we share as West Virginians and Americans. In the Manchin household, we were always taught that if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings. This lesson has stuck with me throughout my adult life and I have tried to pass it along to my children and grandchildren. One the blessings I always count is my family and loved ones. That’s why last week I introduced a resolution in the Senate that designates the week of Thanksgiving ‘National Family Week.’ This week, we are surrounded by our families and loved ones and we must never forget to give thanks for them.”

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito

“Every year during the Thanksgiving holiday, we are reminded of our many blessings. I am thankful for so much—including my family and friends, good health, the men and women who selflessly serve this country, and the opportunity to serve West Virginians in the United States Senate. Charlie and I look forward to spending time in Charleston with our children and grandchildren as we celebrate these blessings. We wish all West Virginians a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.”
