Troopers arrest 2 after 3-county pursuit

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Two people were arrested early Wednesday morning after a pursuit that went through parts of three counties, authorities said.

Michael Smith II and Brittany Gibson are facing multiple charges after the chase.

A vehicle was reported stolen and state police spotted it on Strawberry Road in Kanawha County at around 1:20 a.m. The driver wouldn’t stop, troopers said.

The pursuit continued through parts of Kanawha, Lincoln and Cabell counties. It ended near Barboursville where the arrests were made.

Smith is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing on foot, driving on a suspended license, fleeing in a vehicle and other driving offenses. Gibson is charged with fleeing on foot and obstructing.

Troopers said two other people were in the vehicle, but will not be charged.

State police troopers from the Hamlin detachment are investigating.

Both Smith and Gibson remain at the Western Regional Jail.
