3-star receiver Spalding chooses WVU over Michigan

Dillon Spalding caught 110 passes over his final two high school seasons, accounting for 37 touchdowns.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Rivals three-star receiver Dillon Spalding committed to West Virginia over Michigan on Monday night, enticed by the Mountaineers’ passing attack.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Spalding also holds offers from 13 other FBS programs, including Virginia Tech, Tennessee, N.C.State, Virginia, Wake Forest and Syracuse.

He credited the relationship-building of West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen over the past two years and the recent attention from assistant Tony Dews, who grew up near Spalding’s hometown of Lorton, Va.

Spalding enjoyed a big junior season at South County High by catching 67 passes for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns. Utilized in multiple spots this fall, he made 43 receptions for 916 yards and 14 touchdowns and ran for nine scores.

The Mountaineers’ 2018 recruiting class is ranked 16th by Rivals, with many of the 22 commitments planning to sign during the new December period.

“I know there is a great group of guys commitment and I feel like we’re one of the best recruiting classes in the nation,” Spalding told Rivals. “I’m really excited to play with and work with them for the next few years.”
