Man arrested after three county pursuit

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A motorist refused to pull over for Kanawha County deputies Monday morning resulting in a high speed pursuit across three counties.

Deputies say the vehicle was spotted on Charleston’s west side early Monday morning with a registration which did not match the vehicle.

Deputies attempted to pull over the driver on Stockton Street and 4th Avenue. The driver, now identified as Robert Lee Goff, Jr., 33, of Charleston, took off.

The pursuit stretched to Sissonville and back toward Charleston eventually moving to U.S. Route 60 through Jefferson and into Putnam County.

Police managed to flatten two of his tires with a stop stick device, but he continued to flee. Investigators say Goff struck a Hurricane Police cruiser involved in the chase.

Goff’s vehicle was finally stopped and he was apprehended in Cabell County.

Goff is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, driving on suspended operators license, no insurance, and improper registration.

He may soon be facing additional charges in Putnam County related to the pursuit and crash.
