Coal truck overturns in Raleigh County, driver injured

WHITESVILLE, W.Va. — A Raleigh County road was blocked for several hours Wednesday after a coal truck overturned.

Coal River Road was closed for several hours Wednesday.

The accident occurred just before 1 in the afternoon on Coal River Road (U.S. Route 3) between Whitesville and Eunice.

A witness called MetroNews affiliate WJLS saying coal was spilled everywhere, completely blocking traffic.

Authorities confirmed Thursday that the driver of the coal truck was from Ohio and transported via ambulance to an area hospital for injuries. The road reopened that evening just before 6.

No further details were available as of Thursday afternoon.
