Fayette County man arrested for setting structure fires

ANSTED, W.Va. — A man is under arrest following two fires determined to be intentionally set.

Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley said crews responded to two structure fires in Ansted. Both fires, one at an outbuilding Friday and another at a residence Saturday, appeared suspicious to authorities. Law enforcement interviewed the owner’s son where he admitted to setting both blazes.

Devon Young, 22 of Ansted, was arrested and charged with first degree arson. He was transported to the Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County. Sheriff Fridley said most arson suspects know their target.

“Offenders of arson incidents are frequently close to the victims. In this case Young is an immediate family member, making it a very emotional situation for the family.”

The crime remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Ansted Police Department. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 304-574-3590 or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia at 304-255-STOP (7876).

No injuries were reported in the fires.
