HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — C.J. Burks scored seven of Marshall’s final 10 points and Jon Elmore made a clutch block late to preserve a 70-66 victory over UT-Chattanooga on Tuesday night at the Cam Henderson Center.
Burks’ 23 points led the Herd (6-3) while Elmore scored 22 and Ajdin Penava added 10 points, nine rebounds and a season-high six blocks.
Marshall improved to 6-0 at home despite 1-of-16 shooting from 3-point range.
McKinde London pumped in a game-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Chattanooga (4-5), which led twice in the final 2:45.
The Mocs had the ball trailing by a point in the final 10 seconds when Elmore blocked a shot and was fouled. After he made one free throw, UTC hurried a potential go-ahead 3-pointer that was rebounded by Jannson Williams. The Herd freshman made two more foul shots to ice the win.
The Herd trailed by six points after a season-low 30 points at the half, but opened the second half on a 15-1 run, holding Chattanooga without a field goal for more than seven minutes.
The Mocs committed 19 turnovers and shot only 34 percent but kept the game tight thanks to a 44-32 rebounding edge.
