W.Va. soldier killed in Louisiana

FORT POLK, La. — A West Virginia native in the United States Army is killed in a car wreck near a Louisiana Army base.

The Army report Spec. William A. Rhodes, 22, of Hurricane, W.Va. died in a car wreck November 30th. Rhodes was one of two soldiers traveling in the vehicle which crashed on a highway near Alexandria, La. The other soldier was treated and released.

Rhodes was stationed at Fort Polk after joining the Army in October 2015. Rhodes was an infantry rifleman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
