Thundering Herd toy drive this weekend

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Members of the Marshall Thundering Herd football team will take a break from bowl preparation on Saturday to give back to the community.

The team will be at the Wal-Mart in Barboursville from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday for their annual Christmas toy drive.

“Our team really enjoys doing it. It just gives us an opportunity as a football team and program to give back to our community,” said Coach Doc Holliday. “You don’t realize the number of kids, even here in our tri-state area, who without this drive don’t have a Christmas.”

Fans are encouraged to bring a toy to the parking lot or go into Wal-Mart to buy one. The players will be there to help you shop for the toys if you wish and all will be loaded into the football program’s equipment truck. In recent years the team has collected more than $25,000 worth of toys according to Holliday.

“A lot of our players actually grew up like that, so they actually enjoy giving back,” Holliday explained. “The number of people who need it is remarkable here and across the state. Some of these toys go as far as up into Pocahontas County.”

The Herd will play December 16th against Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, N.M.
