Scott baseball standout Carter Lyles commits to WVU

MADISON, W.Va. — Scott junior pitcher and third baseman Carter Lyles over the weekend gave his verbal commitment to West Virginia’s 2019 baseball recruiting class.

“Just received my second D-I offer of the day from a school I have always dreamed playing for,” Lyles tweeted. “(I) have verbally committed to WVU baseball.”

His first D-I offer came from Marshall.

Lyles joins St. Albans junior pitcher Jake Carr as in-state products for that upcoming recruiting class. Standing in at 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, Lyles made a name for himself last year as just a sophomore, earning special honorable mention all-state honors.

In a 19-0 win over Westside back in April, Lyles hit three home runs, including a grand slam, collected 10 RBIs and threw a five-inning shutout.
