One victim still in hospital following fatal Tuesday accident on interstate

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the victim in Tuesday’s fatal vehicle accident on I-79.

A 19-year-old woman from Marion County was killed in that crash, which remains under investigation. A reconstructionist from the White Hall Police Department is assisting the Sheriff’s Department.

The accident occurred when a vehicle heading south on I-79 near the Prickett’s Fort exit crossed the median and slammed into another vehicle heading north. The driver in the southbound vehicle was killed.

A 25-year-old woman from Monongalia County was in the other vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital. Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Riffle said he did not have an update on her condition, but said she was “conscious and alert” at the time of transport.
