HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — As Huntington authorities try to respond to a rash of shooting deaths in recent weeks, police confirm there was another deadly shooting in the city.
This one happened at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at a residence in the 800 block of 25th St., near the intersection of 9th Ave. The victim died at the hospital a few hours after the shooting.
It marked the 19th confirmed homicide in Huntington this year including three this week.
In a news conference earlier this week, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said residents were experiencing “understandable angst.”
“We’re all concerned and certainly our citizens deserve a safe place to live in,” he said.
The Huntington Police Department released its public safety plan during a meeting Wednesday night. The plan includes increased support from West Virginia State Police, as well as moving experienced officers to extra roles with the Violent Crimes Unit.
No arrests were immediately made in Thursday morning’s deadly shooting. Police have yet to release the name of the victim.
