Man charged with arson in Wetzel County fires

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County man is facing multiple felony charges in connection to multiple fires set in Wetzel County.

David James Bowman, 27, of Fairmont, is facing two felony first-degree arson charges and one felony destruction of property charge.

Bowman is charged in connection to fires in Littleton along Hornet Highway, where three structures caught fire. Two were considered fully involved, but the third was “easily extinguished” by members of the Hundred Volunteer Fire Department. The three abandoned structures were previously used as a mixed occupancy residential rental apartments.

Bowman is also accused of stealing newspapers from a nearby Country Cupboard General Store and using those newspapers to fuel the fires in all three buildings. Bowman is also facing an additional charge of entering without breaking, which occurred after the Dec. 10 fires.

Bowman is in Northern Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond.
