McDowell County man charged in girlfriend’s death

RAYSAL,W.Va. — A McDowell County man is charged in connection with his girlfriend’s Friday death.

Emily Hatfield, 24, of Raysal, died of a single gunshot wound. The original call came in as an accidental shooting saying the gun was under a pillow when it went off

Troopers arrived on the scene to investigate and later charged Hatfield’s boyfriend Charles Kennedy, 27, also of  Raysal, with murder. Troopers said Kennedy was acting erratically. He was also charged with drug possession

The couple had children together. The children were not at home at the time, troopers said.
