Man charged after allegedly pulling gun on Morgantown police officer

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown man is accused of pulling out a firearm during a struggle with police.

On Friday, police arrested Wilbur Marvin Higgenbothem, 50, as a person prohibited from possessing a firearm. Higgenbothem was picked up by police as part of a traffic stop for moving violations. That traffic stop turned dangerous when he was unable to produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance and eventually tried to physically fight one of the officers. During the struggle, Higgenbothem is accused of pulling out a semi-automatic firearm before escaping the first responding officer.

The suspect fled from the area but was captured moments later by another responding officer. Officers recovered a .22 caliber, Walther Semi-Automatic Pistol that had been reported stolen from Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Higgenbothem is charged as a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.
