Ahmad to return to action Jan 13 against Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Mountaineer basketball player Esa Ahmad will be eligible to play for the first time this season Jan. 13 against Texas Tech, WVU announced Tuesday.

“The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has received confirmation from the NCAA that basketball forward Esa Ahmad will be eligible for competition starting with WVU’s game at Texas Tech on Jan. 13,” the basketball program’s Twitter account tweeted.

WVU announced in September that Ahmad would not be available for the first half of the season. The junior forward has been practicing with the team.

Ahmad averaged just more than 11 points a game last season. He also pulled down 4.3 rebounds per contest.

No. 6 WVU is 13-1 without Ahmad including a 2-0 start in Big 12 Conference play. The Mountaineers will have two more conference games without him including this Saturday at home against No. 7 Oklahoma and Tuesday, Jan. 9 at home against Baylor.
