BALTIMORE, MD — A Marshall University football player was shot at a New Year’s house party near Baltimore, Maryland early Monday morning, authorities said.
Larry Aaron, a redshirt freshman defensive tackle for the Herd, was shot in the back at around 1 a.m. According to reports, Aaron’s injuries were non-life-threatening. His mother told the Huntington Herald-Dispatch her son had no feeling in his legs because the bullet went into his spine.
Marshall coach Doc Holliday tweeted about the situation Tuesday:
“It is however with a heavy heart that we bring in this new year as I send my thoughts and prayers to Larry Aaron and his entire family during this difficult time. Your @HerdFB family is here for you”
A second person was injured in the shooting and was also said to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are looking for the shooter. Aaron’s mother said her son and friends heard about the party on social media. Her son was leaning against a wall when a fight broke out in another part of the room and shots were fired.
Aaron played in eight games this past season for the heard. The 6-foot-5, 272 pound lineman had 13 tackles.
It is however with a heavy heart that we bring in this new year as I send my thoughts and prayers to Larry Aaron and his entire family during this difficult time. Your @HerdFB family is here for you. #HerdStrong
