Preston County man faces numerous charges after threatening to fly plane into courthouse

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — A Preston County man is facing numerous felony charges after a series of incidents that began when police say he held his wife against her will.

Steven Calvin Barrett Jr., 41, of Rowlesburg, is accused of holding his wife against her will Dec. 26, threatening to fly an airplane into the Preston County Courthouse, and claiming he wanted to have a “shoot out” with the Preston County deputies.

Police said Barrett threatened to shoot police, but didn’t have a gun when they arrived on scene. He also allegedly threatened an officer and the officer’s family.

Barrett is charged with domestic assault and battery, unlawful restraint, and obstructing an officer. He’s also facing charges for making terroristic threats and intimidation of a public employee or officer.

Barrett appeared in court Friday morning for a preliminary hearing.
