ELKINS, W.Va. — State Police say a bloody scene discovered Monday morning when an Elkins business owner opened up for the day was the result of a murder-suicide.
A 36-year old man who worked at Novus Auto Glass and his 23-year old girlfriend were found dead by the owner around 8:20 a.m. Monday according to investigators.
“Initial investigation it appears the two had been involved in some type of domestic violence altercation,” said Sgt. Michael Anderson of the West Virginia State Police.” As a result, he killed her and then killed himself.”
Troopers suspect the shooting happened sometime between late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Owners of the businesses tell police it wasn’t uncommon for the male victim to be there at odd hours.
“The owner said there were times he would stay either working or just spending the night prior to work the next day,” Anderson added.
Investigators believe both victims were shot. A handgun was recovered at the scene. No motive for the fight is known at this point. Troopers continue to question those who were acquainted with the pair.
The names of the victims were not immediately released pending the notification of the next of kin. Anderson said one of the victims lived out of the area.
