CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Michael Stuart took the oath of office Wednesday, becoming the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia.
President Donald Trump nominated Stuart for the position in September, and the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination in a Dec. 20 vote. Stuart previously served as the state chairman for Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Stuart previously practiced law at Steptoe & Johnson in Charleston, where he focused on corporate law, energy and commercial transactions and government relations. He is an alumnus of West Virginia University and earned his law degree from Boston College.
