MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU President Gordon Gee is recovering following an operation to implant an internal defibrillator, West Virginia University announced.
Dr. Gee fell at Pittsburgh International Airport while returning from a holiday trip. During the testing that followed, it was discovered he had minimal scarring around his heart. That could have led to a momentary tachycardia event, when the heart rate exceeds normal resting rate.
As a precaution, Dr. Gee underwent a procedure last Friday, Jan. 5. He is expected to return to work next week.
He tweeted Tuesday:
Thank you all for your kind messages over the last few days. I am overwhelmed by your kindness. I am looking forward to getting back into the office next week. https://t.co/qRpCrKBA5l
