MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Parkersburg South is the top ranked team in the debut edition of the MetroNews boys basketball Power Index computer rankings, presented by Critical Power Management.
The Patriots entered Wednesday with a 7-1 record, including wins over Musselman, Capital, Morgantown and two victories over Parkersburg. Parkersburg South’s lone loss this year came to Teays Valley Christian back on December 20.
Undefeated Class AA defending state champion Fairmont Senior (8-0) is No. 2 overall, while unbeaten University (8-0) is No. 3. Martinsburg (7-1) is No. 4, Woodrow Wilson (7-1) No. 5 and Hedgesville (9-2) No. 6.
Chapmanville Regional (9-1) is the second highest rated Class AA team, coming in at No. 7 overall.
With a strength of schedule boosted by six wins over Class AA programs, Mount View (7-2) is the highest rated Class A team in the computer rankings, coming in at No. 13. Tug Valley (No. 27), Central Catholic (No. 33) and Ravenswood (No. 34) are the next highest rated Class A teams.
The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 9.
