Greenbrier County homicide under investigation

RUPERT, W.Va. — A Wednesday welfare check escalated when deputies found a body inside of a home.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to the residence after the victim’s family contacted them. The victim, identified as Clarence Sheppard, 72 of Rupert, had not been heard from in several days.

The body has been sent to the state Medial Examiner’s Office in Charleston. The department said they have evidence to determine the cause of death was homicide, but further details will be released once autopsy results come out.
