Homicide investigation launched in death of Greenbrier County man

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an elderly man following an autopsy report from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officers from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police found the body of Clarence Sheppard, 72, Sunday at his Rupert apartment.

The officers were conducting a welfare check at the time. Sheppard lived alone.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Sheppard’s death as a homicide.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement more information will be released as the investigation continues.
