DOH crews working 12-hour shifts in response to latest storm

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Crews with the state Division of Highways will continue to work 12-hour shifts as part of the agency’s response to the latest winter storm.

“It’s around the clock, 12-hour shifts,” DOH spokesman Brent Walker said.

Crews were preparing for icy conditions with temperatures heading to the single digits Tuesday night. The agency was pleased with how salt and other abrasives were working during the daylight hours Tuesday, Walker said.

Crews will continue to plow and treat. Walker said some of the routes for drivers are 20 miles long or longer.

“So it’s going to appear that perhaps it hasn’t been treated the way some people feel it should, but I can assure you our people are out there and we’re doing battle,” Walker said.

Temperatures are forecasted to moderate by the end of the week.
