Fairmont man one of two dead in Ohio helicopter crash

PEMBERVILLE, OHIO — Federal investigators are looking into what led to the death of two contractors in a Monday morning helicopter crash.

A Fairmont man was one of the two people killed. Jeff Fluharty, 62, was working for Vista I, a company contracted to do inspection work and transmission line work for First Energy. Tyson Snyder, 32, of Wooster, Ohio was also killed in the crash.

First Energy Spokesperson Doug Colafella confirmed the passing Tuesday morning.

“We express our sincere condolences to their family members and fellow works,” he said.

Fluharty was a longtime employee of Mon Power before leaving for Vista I in 2005.

Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred just south of Toledo in Wood County, Ohio shortly before noon Monday.
