Parkersburg South remains No. 1 in updated boys Power Index

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Parkersburg South remained the overall No. 1 team in Wednesday’s updated edition of the MetroNews boys basketball Power Index computer rankings, presented by Critical Power Management.

With snow and ice cancelling games across the state, Parkersburg South (8-1) was one of many teams that played just one game over the past week – the Patriots back on Thursday defeated Brooke 79-53.

University (9-0) comes in at No. 2 after picking up a win over rival Morgantown 65-49. Fairmont Senior (10-0), coming off of a 55-point win over Mingo Central, is No. 3 overall and the highest rated team out of Class AA.

Beckley (8-1) is No. 4, with its lone loss coming out of state, while Martinsburg (8-2) is at No. 5 — both of the Bulldogs’ losses are out of state as well.

Musselman (8-3) is one of the biggest movers this week, jumping from No. 14 overall up to No. 6. The Applemen have won six in a row, including recent victories over Loudoun County (Va.), Hedgesville and Morgantown.

Chapmanville Regional (9-1) is the second-highest rated team out of Class AA, coming in at No. 9 overall, followed by undefeated Oak Hill (7-0) at No. 10.

Mount View (7-3), which fell to Bluefield over the past week, remains the highest-rated team out of Class A, coming in at No. 21. Wheeling Central (9-1) is the second-highest Class A program at No. 27, followed by Tug Valley (5-3) at No. 31 and Ravenswood (9-0) at No. 32.

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 16.
