CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man charged in connection with a 2016 fatal shooting in Charleston has a new trial date.
Kanawha County Circuit Judges Charles King delayed the trial of Antonio Williams a fifth time. His trial, which was supposed to start Monday, was rescheduled to June 11.
Williams, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Shannon Cade, 20.
Cade was shot at a home on Mathews Avenue on Jan. 1, 2016. Williams allegedly fired several rounds through a window, striking Cade and a 14 year old girl. The girl sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Police said Williams thought someone else was inside the home and that his intended target was not necessarily Cade. Officers believe the shooting was the result of a disagreement involving Williams’ girlfriend.
Williams has been in jail awaiting trial since Jan. 6, 2016. This is the fifth time he’s had his trial delayed.
Co-defendant Sean Burdette, 24, is accused of driving the get-away vehicle. Burdette pleaded guilty to misdemeanor accessory after the fact in August.
Williams remains in the South Central Regional Jail.
