High school boys basketball Power Index: January 24

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Ahead of Wednesday night’s meeting between Parkersburg South and University, the two teams remained No. 1 and No. 2 in the updated edition of the boys basketball Power Index, presented by Critical Power Management.

The top rated Patriots entered Wednesday with an overall record of 9-1 with University still unbeaten at 10-0.

***Parkersburg South defeated University on Wednesday night 67-63 as Cole Plants scored 25 points.

Fairmont Senior (12-0) is No. 3, the highest rated team out of Class AA. Musselman (10-3), which handed Martinsburg its first in-state loss back on Friday, jumped up to No. 4. Woodrow Wilson (9-1) is No. 5 and Martinsburg (10-3) No. 6.

Chapmanville Regional (11-1) is the second-highest AA team, coming in at No. 8, while Oak Hill (9-0) is No. 10, Bluefield (9-2) No. 11 and Bridgeport 9-2) No. 12.

Mount View (7-4) is the highest Class A team in the ratings at No. 23, followed by No. 27 Tug Valley (7-4), No. 29 Wheeling Central (10-1), No. 30 Ravenswood (12-0) and No. 38 Valley Fayette (8-0).

Morgantown (7-6) has played the state’s most difficult schedule, according to the PI, with five of its six losses coming to teams ranked in the top six (No. 1 Parkersburg South, No. 2 University, No. 3 Fairmont Senior, No. 4 Musselman and No. 6 Martinsburg).
