Parkersburg man arrested as suspicious death investigation begins

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Parkersburg man faces charges after allegedly hiding his father’s body.

The Parkersburg Police Department said James T. Hendershot, 34, struck his father, James C. Hendershot, last week, to which the father then barricaded himself in a room at a Liberty Street home. The temperature in the house was 58 degrees. The State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy Friday to determine the cause of death.

Authorities said James T. Hendershot told fire department personnel and officials at the scene “suspicious information.”

James T. Hendershot faces one felony count of concealing a deceased human body. He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and placed on $100,000 bond.

An investigation is ongoing.
