PSC approves Pleasants Power Station sale

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Public Service Commission authorized Friday the sale of the Pleasants Power Station from Allegheny Energy Supply Co. to Monongahela Power Company and Potomac Edison.

The commission approved the transfer with protections to protect ratepayers, including requiring limitations on costs to customers, recovery of closing costs if the plant is retired early and protection against costs related to prior operations or problems with the McElroy’s Run Impoundment and Dam

Allegheny Energy Supply Co. is an affiliate of Monongahela Power Company and Potomac Edison.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission must also approve the transfer. The federal commission denied the first petition on Jan. 12.
