BECKLEY, W.Va. — Westside picked up a dominant, marquee win on Tuesday, handing Bluefield just its third loss of the year, 86-57, in the Big Atlantic Classic.
The Renegades set the tone early, jumping out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and 34-24 lead at the half.
Jacob Ellis led the way for Westside (11-3) with 22 points, while Corey Hatfield added 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Shane Jenkins also totaled 19 points and Isaiah Lester scored 10 points in the win.
Mookie Collier led Bluefield (10-3) in the loss with 22 points.
The two teams combined for 45 turnovers (24 for Westside, 21 for Bluefield), but the Renegades hit 35 of 58 shots for 60 percent shooting, while Bluefield went just 36 percent from the floor.
Bluefield entered this week as the No. 4 team out of Class AA in the MetroNews Power Index, while Westside was No. 7. An updated Power Index will be released later on Wednesday.
