SAN ANTONIO — Jhivvan Jackson scored 23 points including a basket in a game-ending 6-0 run that lifted UT San Antonio past Marshall 81-77 on Wednesday night in Conference USA action.
The Roadrunners (12-11, 5-5) outrebounded the Thundering Herd 54-35 and led 18-5 in second-chance points.
“I was embarrassed about our performance,” Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni said. “We weren’t ready. They fought hard and we didn’t. There’s no reason for that.
“No matter how old I get, this will always light me up. I can take a lot of things. I can take missed shots, but I can’t take a lack of focus. Rest assured, I won’t let them forget how they played tonight.”
Jon Elmore scored 23 points with 13 rebounds for the Herd (14-8, 5-4) including a 3 that put his team ahead 77-75 with 2:18 left. But Marshall shot 0-for-5 with two turnovers the rest of the way.
“It shouldn’t have been close,” D’Antoni fumed. “We weren’t ready to play.”
Ajdin Penava added 18 points and C.J. Burks scored 16 for the Herd.
