Cunningham’s late 3 lifts South Charleston over Capital

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — South Charleston handed Capital just its second in-state loss on Monday night, beating the Cougars 66-63 on a late 3.

It was Shazaun Cunningham who gave South Charleston the win with a 3 and just two seconds to go. E.J. Phillips led the Black Eagles with 24 points, while Romeo Dunham added 15 points and Cunningham finished with 12 points in the win.

Capital was led by Anthony Pittman who scored 15 points in the loss.

It was a nice bounce-back win for South Charleston (10-5), which fell to Huntington by 37 points back on Friday. The Black Eagles Wednesday will have another big test, facing No. 2 University.

Capital drops to 8-5 overall, with its other in-state loss coming to top-ranked Parkersburg South.
