MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Parkersburg South and University are No. 1 and No. 2 in the updated MetroNews boys basketball Power Index, presented by Critical Power Management.
The No. 1 Patriots (14-1) had a big week overall, beating Wheeling Park back on Friday night 77-60 and following it up with a dramatic comeback over a ranked Logan (OH) team, 68-63 in overtime.
No. 2 University (14-1) had an even bigger week in-state, picking up wins in the Big Atlantic Classic over Hedgesville (65-52) and Beckley (85-73).
Fairmont Senior (16-0) is the top rated team out of Class AA and overall No. 3. The Polar Bears are the lone unbeaten team of any class as previously undefeated Valley (Fayette) fell to Trinity on Wednesday morning, 43-42.
Martinsburg (15-4) is No. 4, Musselman (14-4) No. 5 and George Washington (13-2) No. 6.
Chapmanville (14-1) is No. 7 overall and the second-highest team out of Class AA, coming off of Tuesday’s win over Class AAA defending state champion Huntington 60-42 (the Highlanders were without standout Mikal Dawson in the loss, suffering from a hand injury).
Mount View (11-5), Tug Valley (12-5) and Wheeling Central (16-1) are the top three teams out of Class A. Trinity (12-4) is No. 8 among Class A teams with its win over Valley Fayette.
