Off of recent big wins, No. 2 University turns to OVAC

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 2 University this past week added another dominant win, beating South Charleston 78-53.

Austin Forbes led the Hawks with 24 points, while Ethan Ridgeway scored 23 points and Kaden Metheny added 10 points in the win.

The Hawks (16-1), a veteran and experienced team, also have recent wins over top 10 Class AAA teams out of the MetroNews Power Index Hedgesville and Beckley.

“We’re a tight-knit team,” Metheny said. “We’re truly a family and I think that really will take us a long way. We’re brothers – we can call each other brothers and that will help us go a long way.”

It’s a University team this week that has a 5A OVAC semifinal home contest against Wheeling Park on Tuesday. UHS defeated Wheeling Park earlier this season, 63-52.

The other semifinal has No. 1 Parkersburg South facing Indian Creek (OH). Parkersburg South has wins over both Wheeling Park (77-60) and University (67-63) from earlier this season as well.

The OVAC championship games are set for Saturday, February 17 from St. Clairsville (OH).
