Important top five win for No. 3 Martinsburg over Musselman

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 55-50 win for Martinsburg over Musselman back on Friday night evened the regular season series between the two teams and made eventual postseason sectional seeding even more intriguing.

Martinsburg entered this week No. 3 among Class AAA teams in the MetroNews Power Index, while Musselman is No. 4.

It was just Musselman’s second in-state loss. Martinsburg also has just two in-state losses, with one of those coming to the Applemen back in mid-January (74-58).

The Bulldogs (16-4) also already have two wins over Hedgesville, while Musselman (14-5) is 1-0 against the Eagles and will have a second matchup later this week.

In Friday’s contest, Martinsburg was led by Corey Barnett’s 19 points. Musselman’s Jake Stephens finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds in the loss.
