Updated boys basketball MetroNews Power Index: Feb. 14

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Winners now of 16 straight games, Parkersburg South has continued to maintain its stronghold on the No. 1 spot in the updated in the updated MetroNews boys basketball Power Index, presented by Critical Power Management.

Parkersburg South (18-1) has been No. 1 in the PI since the first release this season.

The Patriots’ challenging schedule continues this week with a matchup Thursday against overall No. 5 George Washington (15-2) and a contest against No. 2 University (17-1) on Saturday in the OVAC 5A championship.

Parkersburg South, University and George Washington all are in the mix for a potential No. 1 seed at the state tournament if they should make it that far.

Class AA defending champion Fairmont Senior (18-0) is the state’s lone unbeaten team, coming in at No. 3 overall. Martinsburg (16-4) is No. 4, coming off of an important win over sectional rival Musselman back on Friday of last week, splitting the regular season series.

The top 10 is rounded out with Chapmanville (18-1) at No. 6, Musselman (15-5) No. 7, Oak Hill (15-1) No. 8, Hedgesville (14-5) No. 9 and Class AAA defending state champion Huntington (13-5) at No. 10.

The final week of the regular season is coming up next week, with sectional play getting into full swing the week of February 26.
