Ohio River crests at Wheeling at just below 39 feet

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Ohio River crested in Wheeling late Saturday night at 38.93 feet, nearly three feet above flood stage.

Saturday’s rise of the river forced the closure of the racetrak and casino on Wheeling Island. Several streets on the island were covered and the water covered the field at Wheeling Island Stadium. Homes were also impacted.

There was flooding up and down the Ohio in the Northern Panhandle Saturday with flood warnings posted down river through Tuesday.
