Officer-involved deadly shooting under investigation in Berkeley County

INWOOD, W.Va. — A shooting at an Inwood night club left one person dead and another injured over the weekend.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a massive fight inside the Coco Loco Club around 2:00 Saturday morning.

They arrived to find a yet unidentified man firing a gun in the parking lot.

The shooter injured a night club employee before being killed by deputies.

The two officers involved are now on paid administrative leave during an internal investigation.

“That’s protocol whenever there’s an officer involved shooting,” Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Catie Wilkes Delligatti said. “Both for investigative purposes and also so that they may see the department psychiatrist and receive treatment.”

Delligatti said the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force will also conduct an independent investigation and report back to her office.

The shooter’s body has been sent to Charleston for an autopsy and to be identified conclusively.

A number of videos of the incident have been recovered from social media sites.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have additional video to share that with the Sheriff’s Department.
