Wrestling: Parkersburg South, Independence win titles again

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Parkersburg South and Independence continued their dominance in wrestling this weekend, adding to their overall total of team titles.

It was Parkersburg South’s fourth straight championship and eighth in the last 10 years.

The Patriots set a record with 288 team points and finished with another record six individual champions. Huntington was the runner-up, 152 points behind Parkersburg South.

Independence, meanwhile, won its fifth straight championship, taking the AA/A title by 51 points over runner-up East Fairmont. Madonna was the highest placing team out of Class A, coming in fifth in the AA/A class.
