Arson suspected as cause of latest Clarksburg fire

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Authorities are investigating the cause of a Monday night structure fire at an abandoned home in the Adamston area of Clarksburg.

The fire, which started around 7:30 p.m. Monday at the property of 1401 Adams Street, is believed to be intentionally set.

Clarksburg Fire Chief Rick Scott said there were no utilities connected to the home.

“It was scheduled to be demoed,” Scott said. “As a matter of fact, the asbestos and everything had been removed from that so it would’ve been torn down.”

Monday’s blaze was the most recent of several suspicious fires in the Adamston area of Clarksburg, which Scott said is very concerning.

Scott and Clarksburg Fire Marshal Chris Magee are working with the Clarksburg Police Department to conduct a criminal investigation into the suspected arson.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department’s tip line at (304) 624-1625.
