Driver killed in McDowell County truck crash

AVONDALE, W.Va. — One man died and a woman was injured after a Tuesday night accident in McDowell County.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of a gravel truck lost control along Route 80 near Avondale. The truck went off of the road and into a ditch. It then re-entered the roadway before falling into a nearby creek.

Deputies confirm one man and one woman were ejected from the vehicle. The man, identified as Franklin Wallace of Tazewell, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment. No word yet on the extent of her injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
