Gallery: Parkersburg girls secure spot in 2nd straight state tournamnet

ONA, W.Va. — Parkersburg earlier this week defeated Cabell Midland on the road, 48-43, to grab a spot in the Class AAA state tournament.

It’s the second consecutive state tournament appearance for the Big Reds (19-6), who made their first appearance in 20 years a season ago.

Madi Mace led Parkersburg with 19 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Cabell Midland ends the year with a 19-6 overall record.

Parkersburg is the No. 3 seed in Class AAA and will face No. 6 Martinsburg (18-7) on Thursday, March 8 at 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday, March 7

Game 1: 11:15 a.m. – No. 2 Parkersburg South (20-3) vs. No. 7 Woodrow Wilson (14-10)

Game 2: 7:15 p.m. – No. 1 Buckhannon-Upshur (24-1) vs. No. 8 Spring Mills (12-13)

Thursday, March 8

Game 3: 11:15 a.m. – No. 4 Wheeling Park (17-6) vs. No. 5 George Washington (16-9)

Game 4: 7:15 p.m. – No. 3 Parkersburg (19-6) vs. No. 6 Martinsburg (18-7)

Friday, March 9

Game 5: 5:30 p.m. – Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner

Game 6: 9 p.m. – Game 1 winner vs. Game 4 winner

Saturday, March 10

7:15 p.m. – Class AAA girls basketball state championship
