CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating what they believe is an attempted murder-suicide reported Monday.

Authorities said they found 75-year-old Jack Hootman had shot and killed himself in the backyard of his home on Silas-Kanawha Two Mile Road. Deputies later discovered the body of Patty Hootman, 75, in the house.

According to Sgt. Brian Humphreys, it appears Patty Hootman had been strangled with a charging cord possibly used for a cellphone.
