Berkeley County man’s trial to begin Tuesday in toddler death

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The trial of a Hedgesville man charged in the scalding death of a 14-month-old boy is set to begin this week.

Michael McKinley

Michael McKinley, 31, will be in court Tuesday to face charges of death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian by child abuse and death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian by child neglect.

According to the Herald Mail, a plea offer had not been extended to the defendant.

Wesley Todd Mowery III died in May 2016 after apparently being scalded by hot bath water.

McKinley had reportedly been drinking at the time of the incident.

The child’s mother, 26-year-old Brittany Reuille, has already accepted a plea agreement and is set to be sentenced in May.
