Home invasion suspect arrested after being subdued by deputy

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — A man was arrested Saturday after allegedly stabbing a man during a home invasion, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department said.

Victor James Hoffman, 47, who deputies described as being homeless, allegedly entered the house on 5th Street in St. Albans at around 12:45 a.m.. The homeowner said he demanded money and then stabbed him. The victim said he had previously met Hoffman.

A deputy responding to the scene spotted a man fitting Hoffman’s description. According to the deputy, Hoffman became confrontational and kept demanding that the deputy shoot him. The deputy later used less lethal “bean bag” rounds to subdue Hoffman.

Hoffman is charged with burglary, robbery and assault. He’s being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

The homeowner was taken to CAMC General after suffering non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.
