West Virginia delegation asks Trump to approve disaster declaration request

WASHINGTON — West Virginia’s congressional delegation sent a letter Wednesday to President Donald Trump, urging him to support a request for a federal disaster declaration in relation to damage from severe storms in parts of the state in February.

Storms caused flooding, landslides and wind damage in 21 counties. Gov. Jim Justice submitted the request in order for the state to receive federal funding for related recovery efforts.

“We remain proud of our local citizens, first responders and our brave National Guard members, who have worked diligently to assist in recovery efforts, and we urge you do to do everything in your power to make sure that our communities have the federal support they need to rebuild and recover,” the lawmakers wrote.

No one died or was injured in the storms.
