MVB Bank Champions Cup standings through basketball

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A look below at the updated MVB Bank Champions Cup standings after the basketball state championships where George Washington (AAA boys), Parkersburg (AAA girls), Chapmanville (AA boys), North Marion (AA girls) and Wheeling Central (A boys and girls) all won titles.

The MVB Bank Champions Cup, presented by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), recognizes the top performing high schools in the state for their overall athletic and academic achievement.

The comprehensive all-sports award – sponsored by MVB Bank – will be presented to the overall boys’ and overall girls’ athletic programs in Class A, Class AA and Class AAA. A total of six MVB Bank Champions Cups will be awarded each academic year, beginning this spring.

The recipients of the MVB Bank Champions Cups will be selected by a point system that will reward the top eight finishers in each state championship sponsored by the WVSSAC.

Points are earned by finishing first (100), second (97), third (95), fourth (93), fifth (91), sixth (89), seventh (87) and eighth (85). Additional points are earned for the graduation rate of each school: 100%-97% (100 points), 96.99%-94% (97), 93.99%-91% (95), 90.99%-88% (93), 87.99%-85% (91), 84.99%-82% (89), 81.99%-79% (87) and 78.99%-76% (85).

Notes:

  • Wheeling Central and Ravenswood remain the closest race, separated by just four points in the Class A boys classification.
  • Bridgeport, Winfield, Fairmont Senior and Philip Barbour are in the top six for both boys and girls rankings out of Class AA.
  • The largest lead overall comes in Class A as Charleston Catholic holds a 172-point advantage over second place Wheeling Central.
