Huntington boys basketball coach Ron Hess steps down

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A part of six state championships overall with the Highlanders, veteran Huntington boys basketball coach Ron Hess on Thursday announced his retirement after 32 seasons of coaching.

Hess spent nine seasons at the helm with Huntington, guiding the Highlanders to three state titles in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

The Highlanders made seven state tournament appearances during his tenure.

He was also an assistant with the Highlanders when they won three straight championships from 2005-2007.

Huntington went 17-7 this past season, falling to eventual state champion George Washington 61-59 in the state tournament quarterfinals.
